MVMV Alzheimer's and African-Americans & SAFER - 06/26/12

It's estimated that older African Americans are about two times more likely than older Caucasians to have Alzheimer's disease and other dementias. Part of the increase in risk is due to the higher prevalence of conditions such as hypertension, heart disease and diabetes in African Americans. To help spread the word in Rochester, a local couple has started an Alzheimer's ministry within their church. We'll meet Ralph and Mollie Richards and hear from Alzheimer's Association CEO Dave Midland.

Also on the show, we'll hear about an organization that works to keep victims of domestic violence and their children safe. The group is known as "SAFER", which stands for Survivors Advocating for Effective Reform. SAFER partners with local law enforcement to help change perceptions and practices when it comes to dealing with victims and perpetrators. SAFER (585) 259-4822
