Bright Spot: Catie and McKenna
Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - Our Bright Spot Wednesday night shines on two young friends who are making a difference in their community.
Last year, Catie Ginther had to write an essay on how she was going to make a difference in the world.
Her topic was homelessness - and she came up with the idea to raise money for the cause.
Catie enlisted the help of her friend McKenna and the two called local agencies to see if they could help.
The only response they received was from the YWCA, which thrilled them because the group helps women and children.
On Wednesday, the pair were invited as special guests to the YWCA's Empowering Women Luncheon and were called up on stage.
"I think it's amazing that everyone is so helpful and kind," Catie said. "And I think it's amazing that they think it's cool what we're doing. And we didn't expect this and it's amazing that we are here today."
McKenna was also surprised - but grateful as well.
"Thank you to Catie for starting this and getting it this far," she added.
The girls went door to door and raised $500 for the YWCA. They presented the organizations with an additional $425 at the luncheon.
