Many Voices, Many Visions, "William Warfield Scholarship/Ugandan Water Project"
April 2, 2017 —
This week we learn about a scholarship in the name of legendary singer and actor William Warfield-- who called Rochester home for many years beginning as a young boy. The scholarship benefits talented African-American students pursuing a career in vocal performance through training at the Eastman School of Music. We'll hear from Warfield's nephew, local musician and teacher Thomas Warfield about his uncle's legacy.
Plus, we'll learn about an effort to bring fresh drinking water to Uganda through the Ugandan Water Project. The organization is holding a 5K race to raise money to buy new equipment, expand and train their workforce in Uganda and bring clean water to even more people. The organization places rainwater collection tanks on community buildings throughout Uganda. Each tank provides enough drinking water for 100 families.
