Bra-Vo highlights importance of breast screening
Victor, N.Y. - A fashion show Sunday night celebrated the grand opening of a new breast imaging center at UR Medicine.
The Bra-Vo For Breast Health event was held at Eastview Mall.
Professional models strutted down the runway wearing handcrafted bras designed uniquely by local artists.
The goal of the event was to highlight the importance of annual breast cancer screenings for women over the age of 40.
"We are really trying to shine the spotlight on early detection for breast cancer awareness," said Elaine Jackson, who works at UR Medicine Thompson Health. "There's an alarming statistic that in Ontario County, only 40 percent of women over 40 are getting their yearly mammogram. And really, the best way to beat breast cancer is to get it early, and mammograms are the best way to do it."
13WHAM's Ginny Ryan served as the emcee for Sunday night's event.
