Health Dept: 3 dead from flu in Monroe County
Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - Three adults have died this winter from the flu, according to the Monroe County Health Department.
The number of cases was released Wednesday morning by the department.
There have been 806 cases of the flu confirmed so far. 168 people have been hospitalized as a result.
A school in Gates had to cancel classes Tuesday due to 25 percent of the students and staff being sickened by the flu and other illnesses.
At this time last year, the Health Department said there were 154 confirmed cases of influenza, 34 hospitalizations and no deaths.
In 2015, there were 3,500 confirmed cases of influenza, 900 hospitalizations, and 11 deaths.
Wayne County has 66 cases since the start of the season, most of which are Flu A. Seneca County has 11 lab-confirmed cases, most of which are Flu A, and Livingston County has 60 lab-confirmed cases – 52 Flu A cases and eight Flu B cases.
