What's Going Around - Week of April 29, 2018
(WHAM) - Here is what's going around for the week of April 29, 2018.
Dr. David Carlson from UR Medicine Urgent Care in Farmington is seeing patients with laryngitis.
Dr. Carlson said it is most often caused by a virus and will go away in 7-10 days with fluids and voice rest. He added that antibiotics will not help.
Patients should see a doctor if the condition is accompanied by difficulty swallowing or breathing.
Dr. Carolyn Stern from UR Medicine Urgent Care in Henrietta is treating burns - because her patients are cooking outside once again.
Dr. Stern encourages her patients to use protection when reaching for that hot cookware. If you do happen to get burned, you should put that burned appendage under cool water right away.
Do not put butter or an ointment on the burn as it will actually make it burn longer. Do not put ice directly on the burn, either; that can actually burn your skin. After it cools, if there is a whiteness to the skin or you have lost sensation, you should see a doctor.
Your doctor or healthcare provider can give you the best advice.
