What's Going Around - Week of May 20, 2018
(WHAM) - Here is what's going around for the week of May 24, 2018.
Dr. Carolyn Stern from UR Medicine Urgent Care in Henrietta is treating allergies.
Dr. Stern said patients should try to avoid allergens - do not open your windows for fresh air if it gives you grief instead of pleasure. Make sure to change air conditioning filters every six months to a year, based on the manufacturer's recommendations.
Patients should also use a moist rag when dusting so dust does not fly around the house.
If patients have this issue each year, they might want to see an allergist. Skin testing is not as uncomfortable as it used to be.
Angie Fenton from UR Medicine Urgent Care in Penfield has been treating bug bites. She said you should avoid areas known to have an overpopulation of bugs.
Repellant with deet is recommended for those over two months old.
Calamine, Zyrtec and Claritin are all good to help with the itching.
As always, your doctor or healthcare provider can give you the best advice.
