(WHAM) - Here is what's going around for the week of November 19, 2017.

Dr. David Carlson from UR Medicine Urgent Care in Farmington is seeing cases of pink eye.

Dr. Carlson said nothing is more effective to stop the infection from spreading through the family than frequent hand washing.

Dr. Carolyn Stern from UR Medicine Urgent Care in Henrietta is treating the pink eye as well. She reminds patients it is extremely contagious in the first 24-48 hours. Most cases are viral, so anti-biotic eye drops will not be helpful.

Dr. Stern's advice? Change your pillowcases out. People usually get pink eye by having a cold, rubbing their nose and then touching their eyes.

In addition, any eye makeup you may have used a day or two before developing pink eye should be thrown out.

Your doctor or healthcare provider can give you the best advice.
