What's Going Around - Week of November 26, 2017
(WHAM) - Here is what's going around for the week of November 26, 2017.
Dr. David Carlson from UR Medicine Urgent Care in Farmington is seeing cases of laryngitis.
Dr. Carlson said hoarseness or laryngitis accompanying a cough and cold are usually caused by a virus. Antibiotics would nto be necessary and could actually be harmful.
Voice changes that last longer than two weeks should be evaluated by a doctor.
Dr. Carolyn Stern from UR Medicine Urgent Care in Henrietta is treating allergies and the flu.
Dr. Stern said people can help to prevent the spread of the flu by covering their cough. Coughing into your elbow or arm and not in your hand is just a basic adult life skill. If you do cough into your hand, wash it immediately afterward.
Try to avoid being around people with sick with the flu. It is contagious from one day before getting sick and an entire seven days afterward.
Your doctor or healthcare provider can give you the best advice.
