CDC: Hospitals over prescribing antibiotics

Updated: Wednesday, March 5 2014, 10:31 AM EST

(AP) - The Centers for Disease Control says many hospitals are over prescribing antibiotics and the practice is putting patients at risk.

According to the study, doctors in some hospitals are prescribing up to three times as many antibiotics as doctors at other hospitals, putting those patients at greater risk for deadly superbug infections.

During the past year, the C-D-C has been raising the alarm about health threats from antibiotic resistance.

The C-D-C recommends every hospital adopt an antibiotic stewardship or accountability program to monitor the use of those medications.
