Cold weather makes allergy season worse

Updated: Friday, March 21 2014, 07:24 AM EDT

Rochester, N.Y. – Due to the bitter cold this winter, doctors said allergy season will start late. but hit hard.

They said that's because the cold helps the trees pollinate more.

Allergy season can begin as early as February, or as late as May.

“It’s been such a long, cold winter, but because it’s been so wet, predictions are it’s just going to bloom like crazy, so it’s going to be difficult for patients who are allergy sufferers,” said Dr. Louis Papa, a professor at the University of Rochester.

Doctors suggest beginning an allergy treatment when threes begin to bloom.
