New treatment cures excessive sweating

Updated: Wednesday, February 5 2014, 06:25 AM EST

Rochester, N.Y. -- Melissa Botkin suffers from hyperhdrosis, also known as excessive sweating.

People with hyperhidrosis may produce five times more sweat than necessary.

“If I'm working out, people make a comment that I sweat a lot,” Botkin said.

Melissa tried prescription strength deodorant, but it didn't work very well for her.

Now those sweat glands can be eliminated with Miradry -- an FDA approved medical energy device. Once several injections numb the underarm area, the device uses a microwave to stop the sweat.

It works by heating the junction between the skin and the fat, and permanently destroys the sweat gland.

It costs $2,400 to $3,000 and will cause some soreness and even temporary numbness under the arms.
