UR study finds Alzheimer's drug side effects

Updated: Thursday, February 20 2014, 07:03 AM EST

Rochester, N.Y. -- Research partially conducted at the University of Rochester could benefit patients and their caregivers.

The study found that high doses of the anti-depressant Citalopram reduced agitation in patients.

The drug could help patients who become short-tempered and verbally or physically abusive.

Researchers, however, warned Citalopram does have side effects. They said more studies are needed to find if a smaller dose of the drug would have the same benefit.
