Zero trans fats doesn't always mean none

Updated: Friday, August 29 2014, 07:47 PM EDT

A new government study found that when a label says zero trans fat, that doesn’t mean that there is none.

According to the CDC, trans fats appear in some popular foods, partially when hydrogenated oil is on the label.

“It makes food last longer and makes food tastier. Having in too much fatty acids does increase one’s risk for heart disease and diabetes,” said Rachel Beller, a nutritionist.

The American Heart Association said that people should aim to have no more than two grams of trans fats a day.
