NY Congressman onboard GOP train during deadly crash
Lyons, N.Y./Crozet, VA (WHAM) - One Congressional representative from the Rochester area was on board the Amtrak train that crashed Wednesday in Virginia.
Rep. John Katko (R, NY-24) was part of the group of Republican lawmakers on the train when it collided with a garbage truck.
A spokesperson from Rep. Katko's office said she spoke with the Congressman and he is safe.
Congressmen Tom Reed and Chris Collins were not on board at the time of the crash.
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement, "The President has been fully briefed on the situation in Virginia and is receiving regular updates. There is one confirmed fatality and one serious injury. There are no serious injuries among members of Congress or their staff. Senior Administration officials are in regular contact with Amtrak and state and local authorities. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone that has been affected by this incident."
