Crime Stoppers helping to raise funds for K9 units
Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - K9 officers do a lot to help solve crimes in the Rochester community. Crime Stoppers is making sure they can continue to do that work.
During the entire month of April, Crime Stoppers is raising money to support K9 teams in the Rochester area.
Each department that has K9 officers has a budget to take care of the dogs, but there can sometimes be things that happen on the job for which there is no budget. Some of those include dental work or various illnesses.
That is where Crime Stoppers comes in to help.
"We like to be able to utilize them as far as the Sheriff's Office and through other departments that don't have K9s," said Monroe County Sheriff Sgt. Shawn Edwards.
Paul Hawkins, chairman of Crime Stoppers, said it is a way for them to say thank you for all that these teams do.
"This is a way...to kind of highlight a section of law enforcement that doesn't always get their due."
