Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - Four candidates have filed petitions to run for the 25th District Congressional seat.

The Monroe County Board of Elections issued a report Tuesday evening, listing three Democrats and one Republican who filed petitions.

Joseph Morelle, Rachel Barnhart and Robin Wilt all filed their petitions to run in the Democratic primary election. Morelle will also be running on the Working Families party line.

Dr. Jim Maxwell will be running on the Republican and Conservative party lines.

Rochester City Councilman Adam McFadden and Rochester City School District Board of Education president Van White said they intended to run for Congress. Both men have until 11:59 p.m. EST Thursday to file their petitions.

The seat was vacated after veteran Congresswoman Louise Slaughter died last month at the age of 88.

The primary election is scheduled for September, unless Governor Andrew Cuomo schedules a special election. If a special election is to be announced, it must be done before July 1.
