Rochester Police: Shootings Linked To Gangs

Rochester, N.Y. - Rochester's Police Chief said three shootings over the past four days are gang-related.
Neighbors told 13WHAM News that they are staying inside their homes in the wake of recent violence.
Since Saturday, there were three separate shootings within a block.
"There is usually kids out playing outside," said Alana Rouse, who lives on Depew Street. "Kids should be getting out of school now and be outside playing. They haven't done that since the shooting started."
A 36-year-old man was shot and killed on Depew Street on Saturday. On Sunday, someone fired shots into a crowd that had gathered for a vigil for the victim. Two people were seriously injured in that shooting. On Tuesday, a 22-year-old man was shot and seriously wounded on neighboring Salina Street.
"I don't believe in coincidences," said Rochester Police Chief James Sheppard. "It's highly likely that they are all connected."
"Why we are down there the last three months is the gang activity," Sheppard said. "We feel like we've suppressed it significantly."
Sheppard said that more patrols have been added to the area.
Rochester Police have identified the gunman from Saturday's Depew Street homicide, and officers are actively pursuing the suspect.
