UPDATED: Arrest made in baby's death
Greece, N.Y. -- Greece police have charged Cory Favata, 23, in the death of a 17-month-old girl.
Investigators said Rileigh Daniels' family called 911 on April 21 because the baby had a medical condition. They said despite life-saving efforts by EMTs and doctors, Rileigh died at Strong Hospital last Thursday.
Greece police didn't confirm reports from some family members who said the baby was shaken, but they did say it was a homicide.
13WHAM News has learned that Favata, the boyfriend of the toddler's mother, has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.
Police said Rileigh was in Favata's while her mother was at work.
Favata was arraigned Tuesday evening and pleaded not guilty.
Family members said Daniels' mother is devastated by her death and spent Tuesday planning her funeral.
Rileigh's aunt has set up a fund to help Rileigh's mother pay for funeral expenses. She told us the baby's mom can't afford to bury her child. That fund set up through GoFundMe has raised more than $1,600.
