Cleaning up the PGA Championship

Updated: Monday, August 12 2013, 06:37 PM EDT

Pittsford, N.Y. – Clean-up is well underway at Oak Hill Country Club.

It took months to set up, and in days all the PGA paraphernalia will be taken down.

Gates no longer line the practice area - an area Oak Hill Country Club members were back on Monday.

Crews worked quickly around golfers.

“Rochester has been a great market for us,” said David Charles, PGA Senior Director of Championships. “Actually, this week 2013 was the 4th in all time ticket sales and in 2003 was the 5th in all time ticket sales for PGA of America.”

And the way the merchandise flew off the shelves reflected the numbers.

“As far as overall sales, it was the highest sales we've had in our gold shop here in the last seven championships,” said Michael Quirk, Senior Director of Merchandise for PGA of America.

And the sales continued Monday.

All PGA merchandise that was left was 50-percent off.

“I found just stuff for kids and cards we play a lot of cards, and dolls for the kids, I just got to take some things back,” said Margaret Murphy who was in town from Nashville Tennessee.

“Oh it's great,” said Jerry Tome when asked about the sale. “My wife was looking for some wine glasses they're all out.”

Empty shelves are proof of the excitement surrounding the tournament.

A tournament that could come back.

David Charles with the PGA said they're in ongoing talks with Oak Hill Country Club - a golf course they call one of the best in the world.
