Rochester, N.Y. - Rochester's former mayor hopes he can sway Bausch Lomb’s new owners to scale back on job cuts.
Four hundred layoffs are coming this year.
Senator Chuck Schumer said he's been assured by the head of Bausch Lomb's new owner, Valeant, that will be it.
But Lieutenant Governor Bob Duffy (D-NY) will meet with Valeant executives in September to encourage them to reduce the number of layoffs.
"I'm flying down,” Duffy said. “I'm going to meet with them to make an appeal to hopefully mitigate some of those cuts, but also to invest in New York. I don't think they have a strong connection to New York State so far.”
The layoffs are scheduled to start in November.
