Gates Homicide Victims Identified

Updated: Friday, July 12 2013, 03:31 PM EDT

Gates, N.Y. - Police identified the man and woman found shot to death inside a Lightwood Lane home on Wednesday.

They are Lydia Bryant and Luis Davila.

Gates Police said Bryant's 10-year-old son found the bodies just after 4 p.m. yesterday.

Police say both victims lived in the home, but have not said how they are related.

Detectives are still trying to determine how Davila and Bryant were killed.

But they say it was between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Police believe the victims were targeted and the community should not be worried about their safety.

Teresa Brongo has lived in the neighborhood for 23 years.

She says the fact that the murders happened during the day is shocking.

"It's horrible, like they say you never know what happens behind closed doors," Brongo said.

Friends of Lydia Bryant said she worked as a bartender, most recently at an East Avenue bar.

Gates Police knocked on doors nearby Thursday to ask people if they saw or heard anything yesterday.

No one has been arrested for the homicides.

The home had been vacant for about a year during renovations before the occupants moved in about three months ago, neighbors say.

Bryant's 10-year-old son is staying with other family members.

Bryant's friend tells 13WHAM News a benefit will be held in her memory on Sunday, December 11th from 9pm to 12am. It will be held at Scene Ultra Lounge, where she worked.

Calling hours for Lydia Bryant will be held December 4th at New comer Funeral Home on Ridgeway Avenue.

Calling hours for Luis Davila will be also be held Sunday at Falvo Funeral Home on North Goodman Street.
