Two dead after Central Ave shooting

Updated: Wednesday, July 24 2013, 10:31 AM EDT

Rochester, N.Y. - Police say two men were shot to death outside a Central Avenue nightclub early Monday morning after some kind of dispute.

Family members of one of the men say he was trying to stop the fight when he was killed.

"There was an altercation, my nephew stepped in to calm that down. It didn't work. They both lost their lives," Matthew Singleton, uncle of one of the victims, said.

Investigators say Jahmia Singleton and Reggie Johnson died after being rushed to the hospital.

“We don't think this was a random incident,” said Lt. Charles Gorman of the RPD. "Right now we're just conducting the investigation, trying to get camera footage. If there are any witnesses out there that might have left the scene, please come forward and give us a call."

Community activist Felix Jacobs was at the scene Monday morning, pleading for an end to the violence.

"Our young people are frustrated, tired and it's hot. That's why the mayor called a cool sweep. Should have called it yesterday, it was 90 degrees," Jacobs told 13WHAM News.
