Dog rescued from Buffalo sinkhole

Updated: Tuesday, February 4 2014, 06:58 AM EST

Buffalo, N.Y. -- Firefighters came to the rescue after a German Shepard fell through a sinkhole Sunday.

Crews tried rescuing “Mack,” but they were unable to get him out of his harness. Moving to plan B, a firefighter volunteered to go into the sinkhole to rescue the dog.

“Late last year, I lost a dog,” said firefighter Mike Paveljack, who volunteered for the rescue. “His name was Scooter, and he was very important to my family, so I knew how the lady felt.”

Mack is now doing fine.

Crews believe a collapsed sewer line was to blame for the sinkhole.
