Rochester, N.Y. - A man swimming at Durand Eastman Beach Sunday afternoon made a startling discovery. "I felt something sharp on my feet so I reached down and grabbed it and it felt like a bone," said Andy Roberts.
He was swimming about 75 yards from shore in an area just west of Log Cabin Road. He picked up the object which appeared to him to be a human spine. "I'm actually an avid hunter so I know what animal bones look like and it didn't look like any deer bone to me," he said.
He also discovered a second bone about a foot long that he said might be consistent with an arm bone.
His fiance called 911 and Rochester Police responded.
An RPD spokesman could not provide any further information.
Roberts said he left the beach a short time later to get his 2 year old son home. "It's kind of creepy- you're just out there swimming, trying to have fun with the family and then this happens," he said.
