Yates County, N.Y. - The long awaited opening day for Camp Good Days and Special Times is right around the corner.
Thousands of children go to the camp every year, and the first campers will be there Monday.
4:41 "We're ready for all the kids to come in and they're going to have a great time," said Mark Serrett, Camp Good Days Facilities Manager.
It's a welcoming they weren't sure of after two devastating storms destroyed the grounds at the end of May.
"It was very devastating," said Samantha Bickford, Camp Good Days counselor. "It was like my home was destroyed, all these camper's homes were destroyed. I honestly didn't know if camp was going to be brought together,"
600 volunteers and numerous contributions from the community proved everyone's doubts wrong.
The camp has replaced a cabin destroyed by water damage with a brand new building. The beach and picnic area have also been completely redone.
"A lot of these kids, they have chemo, they come here outside of their treatment and just come to camp and pretty much plan their summer around it," said Bickford.
Camp Good Days told 13WHAM they could not have done it alone.
"Thank you to everyone out there that's helped us and contributed whether it was, money or just work or materials that you donated," said Serrett. "Everybody thank you. You made a great summer for a lot of kids."
