Albany/Rochester, N.Y. - Sometimes all you need is love, and there was certainly a lot of that to go around at the Times Union Center in Albany Saturday night. A couple from the Rochester area was invited on stage during the Paul McCartney concert.
When John Dann and Claudia Rodgers set out for that concert, they had a couple of goals: to have a good time, and meet the rock icon.
They had high hopes after seeing another McCartney concert in Cincinnati a few years ago.
"The couple in front of us had signs that said basically 'sign me' and 'please sign my wife.' It was a husband and wife combination and Paul loved it and he had them come up on stage," said Dann.
Dann and Rodgers thought they would give it a try too, and he bought tickets to the concert for her birthday.
"He did buy me the tickets, so I thought the least I can do is really try hard for him to meet his idol," said Rodgers.
So Rodgers crafted the signs. Hers read "He refuses to marry me unless he meets you." His said "I have the ring, I'm 64," in reference to the Beatles' song.
As the concert continued on, they thought they might not get to meet his idol. Then the couple got a signal from security to move into the aisle. They knew what that meant.
McCartney invited them on stage and Dann began to sing "When I'm Sixty-Four" to Rodgers. He presented her with the ring. "Sweetheart will you marry me?" he asked. "Yes."
It's a moment they'll never forget - to get engaged in front of Paul McCartney and thousands of others.
"It was my number one bucket list item," said Dann, "to meet Paul McCartney during a lifetime."
