Gillibrand: colleagues' offensive comments

Washington, D.C. - New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said she received offensive comments from her peers while serving in Congress.
CNN reports that on one occasion, she was given a backhanded compliment while working out at the House of Representatives’ gym: “Good thing you’re working out, because you wouldn’t want to get porky.”
On a separate occasion, from a man after she lost weight after childbirth: “Don’t lose too much weight now. I like my girls chubby.”
The congresswoman recounted the stories in a recent interview with People magazine. She told the publication, concerning the man who delivered the second comment, “I believed his intentions were sweet, even if he was being an idiot.”
