Rochester, N.Y. – Rochester is going red for women on Friday.
“Wear Red Day” calls attention to heart disease, which is the leading killer of women in America.
Sara Yantachka was diagnosed with heart disease at a young age, but survived.
“I remember laying in my hospital bed, thinking ‘how am I gonna finish pharmacy school? Who in their twenties will want to marry someone with heart disease? How will I have children?’ I knew then that I had to fight for my dreams,” Yantachka said in a speech.
She did finish pharmacy school with her class. She got married, and the couple now has two daughters.
If you want to help fight this disease, you can donate $5 to the American Heart Association, and get a red dress pin.
