Mount Morris, N.Y. – With this recent winter blast, American Rock Salt told 13WHAM it's working around the clock to keep up with demands.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said there is a salt shortage in Eastern New York. American Rock Salt said it's aware of the situation and working with the state to resolve it.
"We've got the rock salt company right around the corner so a lot of the people out here work there,” said Patrick Goodell of Mount Morris. “The last couple years, it's been really slow, laying people off this time the last couple years, and now they got them working around the clock."
Several counties also issued travel advisories, including Monroe, Ontario, Livingston and Orleans.
Livingston County Undersheriff Matthew Bean reported 37 vehicles were disabled and the county saw about nine accidents because of the snow.
"It took me like 20 minutes to unbury my car, and I got really scared because I heard the plows coming down the street and I thought I was going to get plowed in and I was like 'No,'" said Geri Trainham of Mount Morris.
Monroe and Ontario county travel advisories are in effect until 10 p.m. Wednesday. Livingston and Orleans counties have not set an end time but are expected to be lifted Wednesday night.
