Albany, N.Y. -- The state Board of Regents plans to vote Tuesday to delay the rollout of the Common Core testing standards.
Among the changes proposed by a state panel was delaying the requirement for students to pass the controversial tests in order to graduate. Under the proposal, the first class that would have this standard applied to them would be the class of 2022.
A separated plan to freeze Common Core tests for grades 3 through 8 was defeated.
A panel that studied the Common Core rollout also recommended making it easier for teachers who received poor evaluations based on test results to appeal the rulings.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo blasted the Regents plan as an excuse to delay teacher evaluations, creating his own commission to review the Common Core.
