Irondequoit, N.Y. -- The head of the Rochester Broadway Theatre League wants town leaders to hold on any legal action against Medley Centre developer Scott Congel.
At a meeting with the Irondequoit Chamber of Commerce Thursday night, RBTL Chairman Arnie Rothschild said all sides involved need to meet and discuss the controversy.
Irondequoit town leaders are at odds with Congel after he failed to make tax payments on the mostly vacant mall.
Rothschild’s call came after Assemblyman Joe Morelle asked for a formal investigation into the use of state funding for Medley Centre earlier Thursday.
Rothschild and the RBTL are hoping to see a new performing arts center built on the property.
He said the dispute has been compounded by Congel’s silence on the matter.
“We either find a way to do this or we say we’re not moving forward,” Rothschild said. “If we all get in a room and we fail, then we walk out in front of cameras together and say, ‘Here’s where we got locked up. Here’s why we can’t do this deal.’”
