Batavia, N.Y. – The list of required back-to-school supplies can put a strain on the family budget. A group in Batavia is helping families with the financial burden.
La Mexicana, The Kinderart Klub and Jill Hart, an agent of RealtyUSA are three local businesses that held a school supply drive Thursday.
They asked the community to donate the usual supply items that are found on most school lists, and on Thursday, people lined up to get what they needed.
“It’s amazing to get all of your supplies in one spot and with money being tight as it is, it’s a blessing,” said Amy Worthington, a single mom with a five year old son.
Organizer Danielle Dwyer said, “It’s a burden on a lot of parents, especially the middle range of parents where they might make a good income, but that extra amount to have to spend can be too much for them. And then there are the obviously families that have a really hard time affording it, and we figured this is just a little bit of a burden we can lift off their shoulders for them.”
Premier Credit in Batavia donated many of the supplies.
