Volunteers visit RCSD students

Updated: Thursday, August 21 2014, 06:44 PM EDT

Rochester, N.Y. - The school year hasn't even started and there's already a plea to get kids to go.

Today, employees of the Rochester City School district and volunteers went to the homes of students in kindergarten through third grade, who missed 10 percent or more of school this past year.

"There's a huge problem. We get kids to go to school and the rate goes down." said Hilda Rosario Escher, from the Iberio-American Action League.

Volunteers also brought along school supplies in hopes of motivating both kids and their parents to go to school.
