NYS heroin, opioid task force working on plan

Governor Cuomo appointed a task force last week to work on a comprehensive plan to end the ongoing opioid epidemic.

Albany, N.Y. - New York is still working to develop a plan to crack down on heroin and other drugs in the state.

Governor Cuomo appointed a task force last week to work on a comprehensive plan to end the ongoing opioid epidemic.

13WHAM News asked the governor about it Wednesday. He said the project is about more than simply getting heroin of the streets.

"There is no silver bullet on heroin," Governor Cuomo said. "It's not just heroin - it's opioids, it's prescribed drugs and overprescribed drugs, it's illegal sales, it's prevention, it's treatment. It's all of the above, educating parents, educating teachers, so we need a real comprehensive approach."

Gov. Cuomo said it will be a top priority to get a comprehensive plan done during the upcoming legislative session.
