8 people die from flu in Monroe County
Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - Eight people in Monroe have died from confirmed cases of the flu.
The Monroe County Department of Health confirmed the news Tuesday morning. All of the deaths are of people ages 50 and older.
Five people had died from the flu in Monroe County as of last week, according to data from the department.
The data compiled as of January 20 shows 1,717 cases of flu have been confirmed in Monroe County. Of those cases, 454 people have been hospitalized.
This marks an increase of 343 new cases compared to the previous week, which is the first slowing of the pace at which flu cases have been diagnosed this year.
