After historic Mega Millions drawing, locals take their chance with Powerball
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (13WHAM) - Adding to the historic lottery weekend, the Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots each exceeded $350 million at the same time, for the first time. Friday night's historic Mega Millions jackpot worth $393 million was the fifth-highest in its history.
Early Saturday, a winning Mega Millions ticket was found to have been sold in Illinois. Now, just hours later, players have a chance to take home the Powerball jackpot worth an estimated $356 million.
"First thing I'd do? Treat me! Well, I'd thank the man upstairs and then treat myself, and then go down the line," said Robert Teagle.
"I'd take my baby to the car dealership and say, 'take your choice, one for each day,'" said Sherry Upshaw.
The hype surrounding another massive lotto jackpot brought out players from all over, all trying to become the next to take home the big prize.
And all the while thinking about what they'd like to do with the money if they win.
"I'd help out the church, and I'd help out the community. I'd share some with my wife," Paul Emory added. "I'd go to Hawaii, take a cruise for our anniversary."
"I would give all my kids $2 million a piece, and all the children hospitals in states I lived in, I'd give them a million dollars a piece," Teagle said.
"I would find the poorest church and donate to it, then buy a shelter for the homeless and share the rest with my family," said Katherine Smith.
The cash value of Saturday's Powerball drawing is an estimated $224 million. It's a rather large sum many are eager to see if they could handle in their bank accounts.
“I couldn’t imagine having it, but if I did it’d be wonderful to have," Smith said.
“Could I? Yeah. I’d manage," said Emory.
The Powerball drawing can be seen on 13 WHAM News at 11 on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
