Beer tanks for Genesee Brewery to enter Erie Canal Friday
Waterford, N.Y. (WHAM) - New beer tanks headed for the Genesee Brewery in Rochester will enter the Erie Canal Friday morning.
The 12 massive beer tanks will be placed on barges and will be shipped from Waterford to Rochester for a major brewery modernization project at the brewery.
The first barge is scheduled to be heading into the locks at 11 a.m. Friday.
Last week's original departure date was delayed because of high water levels caused by recent heavy rain.
The tanks were manufactured in China
An estimated schedule for the tanks’ entire canal journey will be released later.
Each tank is 20 feet wide and more than 60 feet long, making it extremely difficult to transport via roadways.
A single tank is capable of holding more than 2,000 barrels, or more than 661,000 cans of beer.
