Brockport Police Department announces next chief

Brockport, N.Y. (WHAM) - The Village of Brockport announced the next chief of police.

Brockport Police Lieutenant Mark Cuzzupoli will be taking on the role of police chief. The current police chief, Daniel Varrenti, will be retiring on March 31, 2018.

Lt. Cuzzupoli said he is "honored and humbled" to be leading the department next year.

"Mark Cuzzupoli has already assumed a significant leadership role in the police department," Mayor Margay Blackman said in a statement. "He knows the officers, their individual personalities and strengths. A strong advocate of community policing, he is a pleasure to work with."

In a statement Wednesday night, Chief Varrenti said, “I couldn’t be happier. The board made a great choice. Congratulations to the future chief, his family, the department and most importantly the community of Brockport. “

Lt. Cuzzupoli has been part of the Brockport Police Department for 22 years. He is also a Brockport High School graduate and graduate of the College at Brockport.
