Two dead from early morning house fire in Naples
NAPLES, N.Y. (WHAM) - A man and woman are dead after a house fire in Naples early Tuesday morning.
Fire officials and Ontario County Sheriff's deputies said the fire was called in just before 4 a.m. at a house on County Road 36 near Feather Street.
The first floor and part of the second floor collapsed into the basement due to the extensive damage from the fire.
Sheriff Phillip Povero said Michael Schenk, 64, was found dead inside the house.
Nearly three hours later, fire investigators found the body of the other occupant of the house - 94-year-old Marian Fleischmann. She and Schenk both lived in the house; Fleischmann owned the house.
Fleischmann's body was found in the basement near the area where her bedroom was located, according to investigators.
Deputies said both victim's bodies are being taken to the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office to determine an exact cause of death.
Heavy equipment is on scene and will be used to move debris from the remains of the home as part of the investigation. Firefighters said parts of the home are still burning and will be extinguished as they are found.
Investigators with the New York State Homeland Security and Emergency Services are continuing to investigate where and how the fire started.
