First responders rescue man from Genesee River gorge
Rochester, N.Y. - A man is recovering after being rescued from the rocks along the Genesee River late Tuesday night.
The Rochester Fire Department believes he fell about 15 feet over a ledge in the High Falls area around 11:15 pm.
Rescue crews arrived within three minutes.
First responders credited passersby who called 911 for helping crews to find the victim so quickly.
Rope and water rescue teams, who practice often in the area, helped get the man to safety.
"In the fire department we have a saying: practice like you play," said Amon Hudson, RFD Public Information Officer. "So we tend to train and practice for events like this so when it comes to game time, its easier to do."
The 38-year-old victim was injured and was taken to the hospital. The extent of his injuries are unclear, but Hudson said he was conscious and breathing.
