Crowds line up for tickets ahead of Powerball drawing

UPDATE: The winning numbers for Wednesday night's huge Powerball drawing are 7, 26, 16, 23, 6, with a Powerball of 4.

Original article:

Rochester, N.Y, - The jackpot for Wednesday's Powerball drawing was a staggering $700 million - and many around our area were hoping for a chance to win the prize.

It wasn't just people hoping to cash in. It was entire offices, too - like Brighton Securities.

The chance of winning? Less than that of winning an Oscar, becoming an astronaut or dating a supermodel.

"The odds of winning the Powerball are roughly zero, to be quite candid," said George Conboy of Brighton Securities. "Your odds are essentially zero with one ticket, and zero with 100 tickets."

For a little more perspective, your odds of having identical quadruplets are greater than winning.

"Well, I already had twins, so I don't want to think of that," said Brighton Security's Sarah Motyka. "If you even said quadruplets to my husband, he'd probably fall on the floor!"

More perspective: Your odds of being struck by a meteor at the exact same time as being attacked by a shark are greater than winning.

"At the same time?" asked Jared Kopp of Brighton Securities. "Wow. I never thought about those first two scenarios."

Okay, so the odds aren't great. But the folks in our newsroom know there's still a chance to win a chunk of cash! Yes, we've started our own pool - but it wasn't for everyone.

"I didn't enter the pool," said 13WHAM's Digital Content Manager, Seth Palmer. "I have historically bad luck with pools and entering office competitions."

Some of us are still daring to dream.

"I would take an entire month and cross as many things off my bucket list as I could," said 13WHAM's Jim Madalinsky. "I don't know if that's enough to get my girlfriend the engagement ring she wants."

You can watch the Powerball drawing at 10:59 p.m. on Fox Rochester!
