Deputies: Phelps woman misappropriated $4,000 from village organization
Phelps, N.Y. (WHAM) - A woman from Phelps will face at least two felony charges in connection to thousands of dollars being stolen from a local government organization
Ontario County Sheriff's deputies say 30-year-old Sarah Hamilton worked at the Business Development and Tourism Council in Phelps.
Hamilton was arrested Monday after investigators say she misappropriated at least $4,000 from the council. She will be charged with first-degree falsifying business records and third-degree grand larceny.
An audit is being performed and will likely result in additional charges against Hamilton.
Investigators say the final audit is slated to be finished by Janaury 2018. The anticipated results of the audit, investigators say, will reveal "the final amount of funds that were misappropriated will be significantly higher than what has been discovered so far."
Hamilton will appear in court next month to answer to the charges.
