Driver hospitalized after car hits utility pole, street sign in Gorham
Gorham, N.Y. - An Erie County man has been arrested for DWI after a crash in Ontario County Friday afternoon.
According to Ontario County Sheriff's deputies, emergency crews were called to the area of Route 245 and Baldwin Road around 3 p.m. Deputies believe the vehicle was heading south on Route 247, when it continued through Route 245. They said the vehicle hit a state highway sign and then sheared a utility pole.
Deputies said the driver was unconscious when first responders arrived. He was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital by Mercy Flight. Deputies said he was wearing his seatbelt.
At Strong Memorial Hospital, deputies say Scott Olmstead, 50, of Cheektowaga was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. Deputies say he was given an appearance ticket.
Investigators said a dog was in the car at the time. They said it was not hurt and was taken into the custody of the Ontario County Humane Society.
