East Avenue Wegmans adds new barrier to change parking lot traffic
Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - Traffic flow in the parking lot of the Wegmans store on East Avenue in Rochester has been a source of frustration for years.
But this week, the supermarket chain is trying something different to see if any changes are possible.
Barriers have been erected in the driving lanes of the store's parking lot to mitigate drivers who use the road within the lot as a pass through.
"Because Probert Street is now one-way from south to north, our East Avenue parking lot is used as a passthrough by motorists," said Jo Natale, vice president of media relations for Wegmans. "Conservatively, this adds more than 200 cars a day to our lot creating a traffic problem and a concern for pedestrian safety."
"I think it'll be good," said Courtney Klee, who was shopping at Wegmans East Avenue. "Right now, I guess it'll be a bit of an inconvenience, but long term I think it'll be good."
