Greece, N.Y. (WHAM) - Greece Police are investigating after a 69-year-old man was found dead in his home Tuesday afternoon.

On Wednesday morning, police said the man's death was ruled a homicide.

Greece Police Chief Patrick Phelan said there was a "fair amount of blood" in the kitchen.

Phelan says a family member went to check on the 69-year-old man because no one had heard from him in a few days.

“All we have right now is a body in the home with blood around it and obviously with some type of trauma to the body,” said Phelan.

"This is a relatively low-crime area," Phelan added. "[It is a] beach front community, very nice neighborhood, very low crime rate. It’s a safe quiet neighborhood."

A van and car were towed from the scene Tuesday night.

Neighbors tell us the man who lived in the home kept to himself. His name has not yet been released to the public.

Police say there were no signs of a break in and they didn't know if anyone else lived in the home.

The road was blocked off between Long Pond and Lowden Point Roads, but was eventually re-opened to traffic.
