Gates Fire Chief announces retirement in Jan. 2018

Gates, N.Y. (WHAM) - The fire chief at the Gates Fire District announced Friday he will be retiring next month.

Jim Harrington has served as the Gates Fire Chief for the last 12 years. Overall, he has spent the past 44 years with the district.

Chief Harrington’s last day of service will be January 25, 2018.

Assistant Chief Alan Bubel will replace Harrington as Fire Chief. He is scheduled to be sworn in the same day.

“I have been so fortunate to have served the citizen of this community, and this fire department, as Fire Chief for the past 12 years," Chief Harrington said. "I want to thank everyone in the community, and the county fire service, for all you have done to assist and support me for all these years."

Harrington will continue to serve on the Board of Directors for the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs.
