Greece police, RPD investigating reported missing child incident
Greece, N.Y. – The Greece and Rochester police departments are investigating a missing child incident, where the young boy involved is the son of an RPD investigator.
Greece police said a family member alerted police the child was missing from Sherri Ann Lane either late Thanksgiving night or early Friday morning.
Officers from multiple agencies responded to the search, with the child eventually being found at his father’s home, according to Greece Police Chief Patrick Phelan.
Phelan told 13WHAM someone brought the boy home from the house on Sherri Ann Lane, but it’s unclear who.
Phelan says the people at the Sherri Ann Lane address were uncooperative, including the boy's father, who the chief also says was intoxicated.
Greece police made a referral to Child Protective Services. Internal affairs at the GPD is currently reviewing the incident.
Phelan said his department has no probable cause to charge the RPD investigator, who was off duty at the time of the search.
Meantime, the Rochester Police Department is gathering information about the incident, but offered no further comment.
RPD said it has referred the matter to its Professional Standards Section and “will conduct a full internal investigation to determine if any disciplinary action is warranted.”
