Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - Students at Vertus Charter High School in Rochester got a taste of the work world Friday.

Thanks to a partnership with Monroe Community College, these young men are learning hands on manufacturing skills that can be applied in the workforce.

In their final class of the semester, the students manufactured and assembled the parts of a small air compressor motor.

The goal of the partnership is to prepare them for college and beyond.

"It's introduced me to a lot of different machines that use different math techniques," said Quincy Clayton, an 11th grade student at the school. "And I learned math in this class that I haven't learned in school so it just helps me improve."

The class credits can be applied toward college.
