Local bars and restaurants prepare for a frigid New Year's Eve
Rochester, N.Y. (WHAM) - This New Year's Eve, and folks say they're ready to get out and celebrate despite the bitter cold.
Local bars and restaurants were busy preparing for a frigid New Year's.
At "Murphy's Law," as well as "City Grill," bartenders don't expect the cold weather to slow folks down. They're actually expecting more crowds tonight, as this is the first New Years with Uber and Lyft.
Mark Potter, a bartender at Murphy's Law, prepared for the crowds.
“It's going to be pretty crazy everywhere," said Potter.
Bringing out the champagne, and stocking up on ice, Potter expects more folks out New Years Eve despite the cold.
“I think Rochestarians are resilient, plus this is the first New Years Eve we'll have the ability to Uber, so I think people will be out in full force tonight. A lot of people don't want to deal with check points. They don't want to deal with a taxi, so now you have the convenience factor with addition of Uber and Lyft.”
Staff at Murphy's Law is also beefing up security and hoping for a safe night.
“It's pretty much smile, keep your head down, and make as many drinks as possible. I just hope bar owners and bartenders are keeping track of how people are. You don't want to over-serve people. You definitely don't want people to get hurt.”
Across the street, City Grill is also prepared for a packed night.
“Rochester people, they know how to brave the cold and come out,” said Jasmine Dich at City Grill.
And folks downtown agree. They say they're ready to take on the cold.
“As long as I bundle up, I'll go out. Just get with a bunch of friends and family and go out and have a good time!”
If you're planning on ridesharing with Uber or Lyft, be mindful the rate may be higher tonight.
